Spanish and French Royalty. Born Isabel de Aragon between 1241 and 1243, the daughter of Jaime I, Rey de Aragon and Yolante Arpad. She married Philippe, Dauphin of France in May 1262 at Clement-en-Auvergne. They had two surviving children; the future Philippe IV and Charles I, Comte de Valois. The couple accompanied the king, Louis IX, on Crusade where he died at Tunis in 1270. Philippe was proclaimed king, and the royal couple began the journey back to France, accompanying the king's body. The pregnant queen suffered a fall from a horse at Calabria, Italy, and shortly thereafter gave birth to a stillborn child. She succumbed less than three weeks later to a combination of injury and childbirth, her body and her child's were returned to France and buried at Saint Denis Basilique.
