Robert served as a Technical Sergeant & Bombardier on B-25C #41-12470, 90th Bomber Squadron, 3rd Bomber Group, Light, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Athens County, Ohio prior to the war.

B-25C #41-12470, along with 4 other B-25's, took off 7 Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a mission to attack enemy seaplanes anchored off Gasmata, West New Britain Province, Papua New Guinea.

Prior to arriving at their target the formation of B-25's were attacked by multiple Japanese fighter planes. B-25C #41-12470 was shot down and crashed into the sea.

B-25C 41-12792 was also shot down on this mission. The other 3 B-25's were able to return to the 7 Mile Drome.

Robert was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the "Silver Star with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster", "Distinguished Flying Cross", and the Purple Heart.
