Brewmaster. He is remembered for establishing the American Brewing Company in St. Louis, Missouri in 1859. After leasing his brewery in Fort Madison, Iowa, his brother, Henry, joined him and changing the firm's name to Henry Koehler and Brother. This partnership dissolved in 1866 when Casper Koehler retired and sold his half of the brewery to Philip Hehner. At this point, the name changed again to Excelsior Brewery. Later, he accepted the position of president of the Columbia Brewing Company with his son, Julius, assuming the position of general superintendent.
