Flowers left for John Green
from the Morris Hill Walking Tour:Burial Date - August 25, 1909Col. Green received the medal of honor on November 18, 1897 for his actions at the Lava Beds, California on January 17, 1873 during the Indian Wars. At that time he was a Major in the first U.S. Cavalry. "In order to reassure his command, this officer, in the most fearless manner and exposed to very great danger, walked in front of the line; the command thus encouraged, advanced over the lava upon the Indians who were concealed among the rocks." Even though he never held a higher rank than Lieut. Colonel in the Army, to Boisians, the German born Green would always be referred to as General Green. It is safe to say that no military man was ever better known or more popular in Idaho's capitol. Green
