I live in southeast Iowa, with my paternal roots coming from northern Arkansas and northern Mississippi, and my maternal roots coming from Davis county, Iowa, Lucas county, Iowa and Schuyler county, Missouri. It fascinates me to think that possibly some of my Confederate ancestors on my father's side fought against my mother's Union ancestors during the Civil War.

It has been said that the study of genealogy is the "handmaiden" to the study of history, and I believe it. I have been interested by history since I was a little boy, and it was only natural for me to get interested in genealogy when I became an adult. When I was growing up, I would often read books about history, especially medieval history. So I was thrilled when I discovered during my research that I am descended from four sons of Edward III, King of England, which in effect links me to most of the royal houses of the Middle Ages. I also found out I descend from two of Daniel Boone's siblings.

I have been researching my family tree all of my adult life, becoming infected with the genealogy bug after I tried filling out a family tree in a Bible when I was 21. After realizing that I didn't know that much about my family history, I set out on a hobby that I have been doing ever since, and enjoying every minute of it!

I try to add as much family information and relationship links as possible in the memorials I manage to help others with their family research. I enjoy walking through cemeteries looking for headstones for others when I have free time, especially since so many others have photographed headstones for me in the past. I appreciate their time and effort! When I visit a cemetery, I take photos of all stones that catch my eye, and of course, any that I think might be even distantly connected to me. If I take a volunteer photograph for you, feel free to use it in whatever way you see fit.

I feel Find-A-Grave is important to help remember deceased families and individuals to keep them preserved for future generations. I have also found it to be an excellent tool for genealogical research. Feel free to contact me regarding any of the memorials I manage, since I am related to most of them in one way or another.
