Neff Family Historian and Co-Editor of "NEFF NEWS" published by the Neff Family Historical Society, Inc. from 1991 to 2007. Author: NEFF-NÄF FAMILY printed by Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ 1991. [B] Family Line of Neffs from Lancaster Co., PA, Manor Twp. and their descendants. Trustee of the NEFF CEMETERY in Huntingdon Co., PA, Petersburg and the NEFF - HERSHEY Cemetery in Lancaster Co., PA, Manor Twp.

Researching Neff and related families since 1980. Focus has been on pre-1860 primary family records found in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and Ohio. European research includes Mennonite communities in the Rhine region of Germany and Swiss records found at the Zürich Archives.

PROJECTS: 2012-2013
In 2003 the Neff Family Historical Society funded a grant to James Madison University to resurvey the Neff-Kagey Cemetery outside of New Market, Shenandoah Co., VA. This involved clearing the entire site, mapping each memorial using CAD and with GPS locations. Each grave marker, including fieldstones, were transcribed and photographed. This information has been compared against indexes made in the 1890's and 1929. It became quite clear that between these dates, some of the original stones had been moved to the Cedar Grove cemetery nearby. Depressions in the ground indicated some internments were relocated and some were not. We continue to update descendants buried in this cemetery who migrated to Virginia, Ohio and Indiana.

Our research team is also working on detailed updates to NEFF, NAFF and NAVE memorials of men who served in the War Between the States both on the North and Southern sides.

Group Administrator for the NEFF NÄF NAEF NAFF NAVE Y-DNA project with "Family Tree DNA" of Houston, Texas. In 2005, The Neff Family Historical Society, Inc. began a Surname research project based on Y-chromosome DNA testing. The Neff surname lines under study are those who immigrated from Switzerland and Germany to North America from the early 1600's to the mid-1800's. The original surname spelling is generally found as NÄF which translates from the German-Swiss work for " ONE WHO LIVES BY THE LAKE. Common variation of our surname in America are NAEF, NAFF, NEFF and NAVE. There are currently over 168 posted results.
