Bio

Eastern Cemetery, Jefferson County KY became a special place to me, due to its history of abuse and neglect. Since 2007, I have tried to photograph every readable memorial I could find. I was honored to spend time with Dr. DiBlasi at his lab, researching and scanning burial records, journals, maps, lot cards, and documenting cremations. I have walked every square inch of the cemetery as my own small way of honorably remembering those people buried there.

I do not have family buried in Eastern Cemetery, nor do I have family in any of the cemeteries in the county, as I am not originally from Kentucky. I have always believed that those at Eastern Cemetery belong with their families, no matter how distant the link. Feel free to copy and use my photos for your personal use.

The goal is to have something out there for a family member who might be searching for that one particular ancestor. Hopefully, I've made the search easier. In September of 2015, I petitioned the court to allow me and four other individuals to probe for stones that have fallen over and were covered by dirt over time. I received that permission after appearing before the Court.

I have transferred all records to a couple of friends I've made through findagrave, and have had the privilege of meeting one of them. Their goal is the same as mine.

I spent years "fighting" drug users and homeless on the cemetery grounds, well meaning groups, neighbors of the cemetery that were clashing with the groups, dog walkers who would sic dogs on me because they thought I was part of a group, and rude, obnoxious individuals, and I grew tired of fighting.

Well, now I have a new fight, which will not let me work with the records of Eastern. December 19th, 2016, I received a diagnosis of glioblastoma, level 4, and told that without treatment, I will live six weeks, with treatment, I have a year. The oncologist said it was going to kill me, and he did not want to tell me that. So I am well and truly done, and will not be able to set foot on Eastern anymore. I'm having some trouble with concentration, so know that it is also time to give up trying to enter names into findagrave, so will be passing on the databases I have, once I find someone. I have asked Jeff Morris, 47176008, to be the steward for my account.

I will always, hopefully, remember those who came into Eastern, looking for family, and I happened to be there and was able to help them. My thanks to all who have let me be a part of their search for their families at Eastern.
