James and Susan (Ralph) Storie, both natives of Canada, came to the Dakota Territory in 1883 and settled on a claim in Section 19 of Alma Township. With the town of Osnabrock close to them. James and his son, Ralph, went into business in Osnabrock (under the name Storie and Storie) as well as continuing to farm. They were involved in the elevator business (with a son in law) as well as in the dray and livery business.
The eight children in the James Storie family included Jennie, Susan, Sarah and Lizzie, who were all early teachers in the rural schools in the Osnabrock area. Ralph and Gertrude. Susie married S.D. Gleason who was an early Osnabrock depot agent. Another daughter was Mrs Case of Park River.
