OBITUARY :
WILLIAM E. "BILL" HAHN, 85, a resident of Reeders Memorial Home, Boonsboro, and formerly of 22 Blue Mountain Estates, Smithsburg, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, in the nursing home. He had been in failing health for the past 15 months and critically ill for the last week.

Born April 26, 1919, in Smithsburg, he was the son of the late George C. and Carrie B. (Ott) Hahn. He was a lifelong resident of the Smithsburg area.

Mr. Hahn attended Blue Mountain School, Smithsburg.

He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Monitor during World War II.

He and his wife of more than 63 years, Mary L. "Louise" (Smith) Hahn, were married Sept. 4, 1940, in Sabillasville. He entered the nursing home May 20, 2003.

Mr. Hahn worked for Frick Co., Waynesboro, for many years. He later was a janitor for Washington County School District for 10 years, until his retirement. Following his retirement, he worked part time at Hahn's Amoco, Smithsburg.

He was a member of Blue Mountain Church of God, Smithsburg, where he was a member of the Men's
Bible Class.

He enjoyed gardening.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia L. Martin of Waynesboro, Virginia A. Teter of Hagerstown, and Sandra J. Smith of Venice, Fla.; one son, Ronald W. Hahn of Greencastle; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; four sisters, Mildred Wilhide, Naomi Shifflett and twins Kathleen Minnick and Ileene Barkdoll, all of Smithsburg; one brother, Eugene Hahn of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, two, sisters, Marie Thompson and Hilda Beam: and one brother, Norvin "Pete" Hahn.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with Pastor Mary E. Crampton officiating. Burial
will be in Harbaugh Church Cemetery near Rouzerville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight in the funeral home.
