Born in Waltham, Massachusetts, on November 30, 1900, Monsignor Thomas Joseph Riley was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1927. Appointed Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Boston and Bishop of the Titular See of Regiae, he received his episcopal consecration on December 21, 1959, at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross from Cardinal Richard James Cushing, Archbishop of Boston, assisted by Eric Francis MacKenzie, Titular Bishop of Alba and by Jeremiah Francis Minihan, Titular Bishop of Paphus. Resigning from office on June 28, 1976, he died at Kennebunk Beach, Maine, Portland, on August 17, 1977, aged 76, and lies buried in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham, Massachusetts.
