US Navy Peacetime Medal of Honor Recipient. He served in the United States Navy as a Chief Watertender. He was awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery on September 8, 1910. His citation reads "On board the USS North Dakota, for extraordinary heroism in the line of his profession during the fire on board that vessel, 8 September 1910". His Medal was awarded on October 4, 1910.
