Araminta "Dorcas" Whitehead,
100, of 3100' Washington Road,
Kenosha, Wisconsin, formerly of
Canton, died January 12,1998, at her
residence.
Born January 8, 1898, at
Rushville, the daughter of Sirvantice
B. and May A (Moore) Ross, she
married Raymond Whitehead on
December 27, 1921, at Galesburg.
He died June 19,1960.
She was also preceded in death
by three brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Jane.
Houghton of Kenosha five grandchildren,
14 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
She taught at Randolph Graig
School-in District 66 from 1949 to
1954. For the next 25 years she did
private tutoring for students with
reading problems. Before marriage,
she taught in rural schools in
Schuyler and McDonough counties.
After her marriage, she assisted her
husband in the grocery business in
Canton until they retired in 1946.
She was a member of Wesley
United Methodist Church of Canton,
and taught the BYK Sunday School
class for many years. She was also a
member of the Canton Woman's
Club.
Services were held January 19 at
Wesley United Methodist Church in
Canton, the Rev. Delmar Smith officiating.
Murphy-Sedgwick Memorial
Home in Canton was in charge of
arrangements. Burial was at
Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
Memorials may be made to
Wesley United Methodist Church.
