Former Auxiliary of the Metropolitan See of Milan and Bishop of the Titular See of Famagusta, Monsignor Domenico Bernareggi was born in Oreno, Vimercate, Lombardy, Italy, on September 5, 1877. He was the elder brother of Monsignor Adriano Bernareggi (1884 - 1953), Bishop of the Diocese of Bergamo.
Ordained to the priesthood at 22 years of age on April 14, 1900, Don Domenico was named parish priest of Malgrate, Lecco, in 1906, four years later he was appointed provost of Magenta.
