When Austin was just a boy, the Teel family moved west to Ohio. A few years later, Austin's father joined the Civil War effort, and was never seen again.
On October 18, 1876, at age 24, Austin married Edith Echelberry. In 1880, the U.S. Census lists Austin as a farmer, residing at Salt Creek, Muskingham, Ohio.
While in Ohio, Edith gave birth to six of their seven children: Mary Jane (1877-1962), Ira L (1879-1880), Flora (1881-1961), Nora (1881-1967), Molena (1886-1945), Maude (1888-1971).
The Teel family moved west to Nebraska, sometime after 1888. They settled around the Moorefield area, to farm. Charles L. (1894-1976) was born there.
Edith died fifteen days after Charles was born, in the Fall of 1894. She was 37 years old. At age 42, Austin was a widower with several young children.
By 1900, Austin owned his own farm outright, at Deer Creek Precinct in Lincoln County.
In 1903, Austin married Elizabeth Richey back in Ohio.
In 1904, Austin's mother Jane died in Ohio. The 1910 and 1920 census' reports Austin as residing back in Ohio with his second wife, Elizabeth.
Austin died in early Fall, on 11 September, 1927. He is buried at the Moorefield Cemetery in Frontier County, along with his first wife, Edith.
