Family and friends mourned the loss of John R. Abbington, 85, who succumbed to cancer.
Formerly a sergeant in the U.S. Army, John was honorably discharged in 1946 and received a Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal while stationed in Germany. He worked as a professional candy maker for 18 years before relocating to Richmond. He became a supervisor at the University of California, retiring in 1991. A loving man with a kind heart and a great sense of humor, John touched many people's lives on a daily basis.
He is survived by his wife, sister, three sons, five daughters, two stepchildren, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and other relatives.
A military service will be held in his honor at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA on June 8 at 11:00 a.m.
