Rosa Lee Watson was the wife of the late Grammy Award winning musician "Doc" Watson. She was also the mother of the late Merle Watson. Merle was also an accomplished musician, accompanying his father on numerous albums. Rosa Lee was born in the Deep Gap section of Watauga County. The only entertainment which her family had was sitting around the fire at night singing and playing music. She was an accomplished musician in her own right, having learned to play by her father Gaither Wiley Carlton. She co-wrote with Doc the song "Your Long Journey". Rosa Lee Watson passed away just six months following the death of her husband Doc Watson. Rosa and Doc were also the parents of a daughter who continues to live in Deep Gap, North Carolina.
