British Prime Minister. Born the son of the 3rd Earl of Northampton, he was educated at Trinity College Oxford and entered the House of Commons as a Whig in 1698. He became Paymaster of Pensions and served in Parliament, (1707-10, 13-15). He was Speaker of the House of Commons, (1715-27) and was Paymaster of Forces, (1722-30). He was created the 1st Earl of Wilmington, in 1730 and was Load President of the Council, (1730-42). In 1742, he was appointed the 2nd Prime Minister Britain, serving until his death at age 70.
