EDWARD WEST CURRIER, the son of Nathaniel and Eliza West (Farnsworth) Currier, was born in New York City, May 20, 1841, and was fitted for college by Messrs. Parker and Berthet, New York City, and by James Lowell of Cambridge, Mass. He was a member of Harvard University one year, and entered the Sophomore class at Amherst in Sept., 1862.

Soon after graduation he entered the employ of Ives & Currier, printers and lithographers, New York City, and was partner in that firm from 1866.

He was, however, an invalid for many years and lived in retirement. He died of heart failure in New York City, April 2, 1907.
In his will Mr. Currier left a bequest of ten thousand dollars to Amherst College library, and made the college the residuary legatee of his estate. The sum thus bequeathed amounted to more than four hundred thousand dollars, by far the largest single donation ever received by the college.

Mr. Currier was never married.
