Mayme Alley LUNDY

Mayme Alley Lundy, long-time resident of Pulaski, passed away at the age of 101,
on Dec. 4, 2012 at Carrington Place Assisted Living in Wytheville.

She was born Sept. 6, 1911 in Carroll County, the fourth of eight children of
Samuel and Susan Alley. She married Troy Lee Lundy Dec. 22, 1928, to whom she
was married for 66 years. The marriage produced one son, T.L. Lundy, who passed
away in 2001. Mayme was a member of the Thornspring United Methodist Church for
over 50 years, also working for Virginia Maid Hosiery for 18 years.

More than anything, she will be remembered for her unshakeable faith, her
unconditional love, and her contentment in every situation. The twinkle in her
eye, the smile on her lips, and the gracious acceptance of all she encountered
will long be remembered.

She is survived by three grandchildren, Kenny Lundy of Pulaski, Vicki Holton of
Panama City, Fla. and Ann Grundstrom of Cary, N.C. In addition, she is survived
by eight great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, as well as her
sister, Ether King, and her brother, Walter Alley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Thornspring United
Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will
be observed at Seagle Funeral Home on Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, 6-8 p.m. Online

Centenarian Celebrates birthday by Jonathan Hooks

Imagine living through two world wars, a prohibition and it's repeal, a depression, a presidential assassination, two George Bush's, and the rise of cell phone's and other portable electronics.

Pulaski County resident Mayme Lundy has seen it all of these things come to pass in her hundred years.

Born in Carroll County on Sept. 6, 1911, Lundy was one of eight children being the oldest daughter out of five, but sibling to three older brothers.

While Lundy could not recall the exact year she and her husband moved to Pulaski County with their son, she has been a member of the Thornspring United Methodist Church for over 50 years, also working at Virginia Maid Hosiery for 18 years.

Lundy is still spry at 100, living with a caregiver in her home, and getting around by herself with only the aid of a walker. "I thank the Lord," she said, attributing her longevity to her faith in God. "His doing is why I'm still alive."

In the century her life has spanned, Lundy has been a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, outliving her only child, T.L., and husband Troy.

In the history of Human existence, never has it been more possible for a person to witness so many changes in technology, style, and the way generations define themselves occur before their very eyes in a single century.

During a quiet moment while discussing her daily diet, and jotting down the comments she had just finished sharing with me when with a matriarchal poise she raised her head, paused, and said, "Where does the time go?"

I can honestly say at that moment, for the first time, it sinks in people pay that phrase much more than lip service.
