Civil War Vet - Co D 3rd Ohio Volunteer Calvary

Silas was the son of William Boor and​ Sarah Cessna. He married Lillian A Jennress on April 7, 1868 in Waterloo, IA. They were the parents of Arthur, Clyde, Edith, Jessie, and Lillian. After her death in 1884, he married Ella McKitrick on 23 Jan 1895 in Fort Dodge,​ Webster,​ Iowa.


July 8, 1926 - Humboldt Independent - The thinning ranks of the local G.A.R. has been visited again by death and private S.C. Boore will answer the call no more.

He responded to the call of his country on Feb 26, 1864 by joining volunteer company D of the Ohio Calvary being then 21 years of age. This company went into action under Gen. Sherman and did service in his campaign against Atlanta. After the fall of Atlanta the company under the command of Gen. Thomas fought in the campaign against Gen. Hood which terminated in the complete destruction of Hoods army. On Aug 4, 1965 Mr Boore received an honorable discharge and returned to his home in Ohio.

He soon moved into Iowa making his home at Waterloo where on April 7, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Lillian A Jenness, who passed from this life June 4, 1884. To this union were born 5 children: Arthur J, deceased in 1899; Clyde D now of Humboldt; Mrs Arthur Smith, Wendell, MN; Mrs F.D. Schaffer and Mrs H.C. Frisner both of Mason City.

June 23, 1895 he was married to Miss Ella M Mckitrick of this city, who is left to mourn his departure. Besides those of his household, he leaves 4 grandchildren and one sister Mrs M.B. Carn of Freemont, IN, and a host of friends made during a life time of 84 years.

Soon after his return from the war he became active in religious things and remained active during his life time. Funeral services were held on Sunday July 4th at the Methodist church. The body was laid to rest in the Union cemetery.
