Former Streator Man Passes Away After a Short Illness
Tony B. Grogan, eldest of the well-Known Grogan brothers passed away April 6 at Flaxton, N. D., the home of his brother, Dr. John Grogan, after an illness of two weeks . Death was due to pneumonia.
Tony Grogan was born Feb. 9, 1875 in Eagle township. He resided here for some time, but has spent most of his life in the Northwest. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. John Grogan, pioneers of this region, and his mother still lives on Stanton street, this city.
Fourteen years ago he was married to Jennie Lane, who survives him. To this union was born one son, who preceded his father in death. Surviving also is a daughter Helen and the following brothers and sisters: Thos. Grogan, Lostwood, N. D. , Patrick, Streator; Dr. John Grogan, Flaxton, N. D, Della, Streator; Joseph, Hammond, Ind., James, Chicago; Dr. Ed, Galesburg, and Hugh, Oak Park, Ill.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday at 2 p.m. and the deceased will be laid beside his son at Stanley, N. D.
Tony Grogan left this city April 2, 1903 to make his home in Dakota. He liked the Northwest with its atmosphere of hospitality, and romance, although he disliked leaving this community where he was so well known. He visited here last December, but returned to North Dakota in January.
His reputation in his chosen home in Dakota is widespread as a man of true character, high ideals and standards. Here he will always be remembered as one of the city's finest products, a gentleman of the old school.
Dr. Ed, and Hugh Grogan will leave today for Flaxton to attend the funeral.
