A bright shining light is gone from earth but now Heaven is a little brighter. Mary Jean McCullough was a ray of hope, cheerful optimist, trusted friend, and devoted wife and mother. Her beautiful smile, charismatic personality and lovely singing voice was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Jean was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1931 to Thomas Robert and Martha Walden. Her family relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 1938 where Jean and her brother Bob were raised. She attended St. Mary's Catholic Girls High School then went to the University of Texas in Austin and Seton School of Nursing. She graduated in 1951 as a Registered Nurse, and she continued her license until present day. In 1953, Jean married the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Joseph Vincent McCullough. Joe and Jean soon began their family and Jean discovered her calling as a devoted mother of five children: Karen Lancaster (John), the late Tom McCullough, Cheryl Davidson (Tom), Merilynn Rubsamen (Pat), and Laureen Pedrotti (Mike); 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren so far! With Jean as the guiding light, she was involved in every aspect of her children's lives. She was Room Mother each year, School Nurse, PTA President, Booster Club president, School Board president, just to name a few. Along with her children's activities, she supported Joe in his career as a geologist by being president of the Geological Wives club, Geological Society, and the ATM club. Jean continued touching people's lives through being a counselor for Family Outreach, Patient Advocate at Spohn Hospital, Emergency Room nurse, Holy Family guild member, St. Pius X founding member, Texas State Aquarium volunteer, American Heart Association Chairman, Town Club Development Committee chairman, member of Sultanas Catholic Women's group, and Cotillion Club president 2012. Jean's social and civic activities were a part of who she was and strongly believed in giving of herself to better the lives of others. In addition to her devotion to family and community, Jean had a passion for music. She began singing as a young girl and brightens the lives of us all with her beautiful soprano voice. She was a Cantor at mass, member of the Adult Choir, and the Schola Choir at St Pius X Catholic Church.

Jean's compassion has made the world a more compassionate place. Her soothing touch has made the world more humanitarian, and her selflessness has made the world more self effacing. Jean drew a rainbow of hope around the shoulders of her family and friends and brought them a colorful joy. We will miss her precious spirit and direction, but her light will continue to guide and lead us on our paths until we all meet her again in Heaven.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
