Laura Mildred Shaw was born on August 14, 1926 a few feet outside the city limits of Whittier, California. Her mom, Laura Opal Edmondson, was one of 21 kids in a family that came to Oklahoma in the land rush of 1889. Her dad, Collins Gordon Pusley, was part of a prominent Choctaw family that came to Oklahoma on the Trail of Tears in 1831.
She, herself, was part of a large family, being the oldest of 13 kids. She had 5 brothers, Eldon, Don, Jimmy, Billy and James. She had 7 sisters, Joyce, Margie, Betty, Susie, Kay, Rita and Peggy.
She was the proud mother of three kids, Marche', Gary and Dave plus two very special daughters, Nancy and Darleen. She had four grandkids, Garan, Erin, Deston and Derek plus one great grandson, Nicholas. We tried to count up the inlaws, nieces, nephews and cousins to no avail. And friends? That ran into the thousands! But three very special friends need to be included here. That's her best friend for the last 40 years, Laverne Morrison, her brother-in-law, Dale Shaw, and her boyfriend of sorts Darr Kauer. They accounted for the most of the 80 hours per month Grandma spent on her cell phone!
She was preceded in death by both her parents, seven of her siblings and three husbands, Ben Huffman, Dee Shaw and Gene Emery.
She passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 23, 2012 at the Parks Edge Nursing Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was four months and 9 days past her 86th birthday.
"There's no danger of ever forgetting someone that left you so much to remember."

Gravesite Details

Per her son, she wanted some of her ashes mixed in concrete to make a bench, to be placed on hillside in cemetery faced to watch the sunset.
