Mr. Russell Walter Hunter, 95, went to be with his Lord at the Morehead Nursing Center in Eden, NC.

He was born on March 12, 1917 in Spray, NC. His parents were the late Russell Walter Hunter, Sr and Jessie Belva O'Dell Hunter.

He served in the US Merchant Marines and was retired from Potomac Electric Power Company.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Mabel Lillian Belton Hunter and daughter in law Tish Nowlin Hunter.

Survivors are sons Ernie Duke Hunter (Lavonne) and Russell Walter Hunter III "Perch". He is also survived by sisters Helen Kimball, Geraldine Vernon and Merle Gentry (Mike), grandchildren Pam Hunnings (Giles), and Rusty Hunter (Regina) and Tammy Knight (Hal), great grandchildren Whitney Hunnings Custis (Ben), Ashley Knight, Blake Hunter and Brady Hunter and great great grandchild Mason Curtis.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Draper, NC.

The family thanks the West Hall staff at Morehead Nursing Center for their care and support.

Graveside funeral services were held at Ridgeview Memorial Gardens on May 24, 2012.
