Philomena was the second child born to Joseph Martin and Philomene (nee Isabelle). She moved with the family several times between Quebec Prov., Canada, Negaunee, MI before the family permanently settled in Delta Co., MI. Philomena "Phil" married Henry Dontigney(1856-1946) on 05 Feb 1883 in Escanaba, Delta Co., MI.

The Federal Census of 1900 and of 1910 shows that they had a total of 8 children although only 2 survived by 1910: Rachael(1884-1957), William(1887-1905), Mary Ann(1889-1905), UNK baby(b.? d. before 1898), UNK baby(b. ? d. before 1898), (Ellen)Bernadette(1896-1931), then twins: Henry-twin(b.1903 - before 1910), John-twin(b.1903 - before 1910). Philomena died from dysentery-anemia in 1919.
