Samuel moved from South Carolina between 1802 and 1807. He then went to Missouri about 1808 with the Thomas Kennedy family. In 1812, S. Gibson raised a company to fight for their families and homes, and this company became the 3rd Company in Col. Nathan Boone's Regiment. *Tabytha died Aug. 16, 1847, in Pike County, Illinois.*
Samuel with six married children, their in–laws and some other families left for Oregon early in 1852. There were many privations, many deaths from Cholera. A book was written "Crossing the Plains" by one of Samuel Gibson's descendants, Edith Starbuck. It is the memoirs of her grandmother, Almira Gibson, giving an interesting and graphic account of that Oregon trip. Samuel died on the way to Oregon on June 8, 1852 of Cholera.
