Horace Avery died at the Lake County Poor Farm in Chase Township, being there only 1 day. He died of paralysis. He, as other poor farm residents, was buried in the public section of the cemetery, unmarked. In 2010 Chase area citizens had a ceremony to dedicate a hand crafted memorial cross to the honor of the memory of the Poor Farm burials. Horace's death record indicated his age as 67, being born 1836, but the 1900 census indicates about 1832. I believe he is son to John Avery and Sarah Cooper Avery. In the book 'the Groton Avery Clan' by Elroy McKendree Avery, Horace is listed as a son, but the only child to not have a birth year or death year recorded. John and Sarah's son James Merritt Avery and his family settled in this area. I believe they were brothers.
