He played Major League Baseball (MLB) for eight seasons (1910, 1912, 1914 to 1915, 1919, 1927, 1929) as an infielder for the Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Braves. After his career ended, he marketed the unique properties of clay and mud found on his family's land in Burlington County, New Jersey to take the shine off new baseballs, creating "Lena Blackburne Rubbing Mud". Today, every Major and Minor league baseball team utilizes the product.
