Ida Mae Stauber Jacobs was born August 6, 1923 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky to John Christian Stauber and Anna Christine Simon Stauber. She was the second-born and oldest daughter of six children. She was named for her paternal grandmother, Ida M. Albrecht Stauber Haglage. Ida's father died the day after Ida's twelfth birthday. Her mother raised her six children alone working as a seamstress. Ida was Catholic, and her heritage was German.

On May 6, 1950 in Newport, Ida married William "Pete" Jacobs, and they had three children: Christine Marie Jacobs Grober, Cynthia Ann Jacobs Kelly, and William "Pete" Jacobs, Jr. Ida died at age 75 on May 21, 1999 in Park Hills, Kenton County, Kentucky and is buried in Saint Mary's Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, Kenton County, Kentucky, near her husband.
