Lynn A. Dufort, 70, of 1196 County Rt. # 25, Whippleville, died Monday, January 14, 2013 at CVPH Medical Center.

Born February 1, 1942 in Malone, he was the son of Harold A. and Marion Derouchie Dufort.

He married Lee A. Sprague June 27, 1964 in St. Joseph's Church with Rev. Albert Plante officiating. She survives.

Lynn was born and raised in Malone. He graduated from Franklin Academy in 1959, and from Plattsburgh State University of New York, earning his Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Certificate of Advanced Studies Degrees. He held various positions in the Malone Central School District as a teacher at the Hawkins School; Principal of Lamberton School; Assistant Principal at Franklin Academy High School; Principal of St. Joseph's School; and finally as Assistant Superintendent.

Lynn was selected as the New York State Distinguished Principal in 1994 and as a National Distinguished Elementary Principal in 1995, which resulted in an invitation to the White House. Lynn retired in 1999 after serving at Malone Central School System for 37 years.

After his retirement from Malone Central Schools, Lynn served as a consultant for Plattsburgh State, supervising student teachers from 1999-2009, and as a consultant for the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, supervising administrative degree candidates. Lynn was a member of the School Administrators Association of New York (SAANYS) for over 40 years, the President of the Malone Administrators Association for 15 years, and was the Regional Director for the State Administrators of NY for four years. He was a past President of the Malone Rotary Club, and was named a Paul Harris Fellow in 1984. He was the Exalted Ruler of the Malone Lodge of Elks from 1995-1996. He served on the Board of Directors of the Franklin County Historical and Museum Society, on the Executive Board of the Alice Hyde Hospital Association, and as a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, as well as being a long time member of the Parish Council and Finance Council. He also served on the Board of Directors of Citizens National Bank.

His wife, children and grandchildren were of utmost importance. Lynn enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling with wife, Lee.

Besides his wife of 48 years, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, David and Laura Dufort of Norwalk, Conn., and Michael Dufort of Whippleville; one daughter and son-in-law, Michelline (Dufort) and Paul Shumski of Concord, N.H.; six grandchildren, John David and Julia Dufort of Norwalk, Peri and Annalise Shumski of Concord, and Claire and Cecelia Dufort of Ipswich, Mass.; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Joseph and Gisele Dufort of Burke, Stephen and Claire Dufort of Pottstown, Pa., and William and Anne Dufort of Columbus, OH; and three sisters and one brother-in-law, Janice (David) Hourihan of Glens Falls, Sue Dufort Brown of Syracuse, and Mary Dufort McGrath of Malone.

Besides his parents, two siblings predeceased him: a brother, Barry Dufort, and a sister Cheryl Dufort.

Calling hours will be on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph's Church. Spring burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Lake Titus Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of North Country, or to a Charity of one's choosing.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to St. Mary-Murphy-Wilcox Funeral Home.
