John Provan II was born April 28, 1802 in New Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire, Scotland. His parents were John Provan I and Marion Bryce. He married Marion Miller (daughter of James Miller and Marion Colqhoun) on July 8, 1828 in New Kilpatrick. They had two children named John III (a baker in Boston, Massachusetts) and Marion (Mrs. John Stewart of Chicago, Illinois). John II was a farmer who lived in Knightswood, Dunbartonshire. He died on May 2, 1837. The burial took place at the New Kilpatrick Churchyard (next to his parents graves). There is a March 3, 1848 Inventory of Estate for John II but no Will.
