Alfred S Ensign, 82, of 10480 W Ridge Rd, was pronounced dead at Elyria Memorial Hospital yesterday morning after an illness of two years.

Mr. Ensign was born in Spencer April 24, 1895. He had been in this area since 1924. He was a retired mechanic for the Lrain County Highway Department, where he worked for 44 years. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of World War I, a corporal in the Army. He was a 57-year member of American Legion Post 12, Elyria and one of the post's original drum corps members. He was a member of the Carlisle Grange. He was a former school board member of the Carlisle Schools for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife, Louise L Ensign (nee Pierce); three daughters, Mrs. Theodore (Virginia) Jones of Traverse City, MI, Mrs George (Beatrice) Vincent of Elyria and Mres. Richard (Joan) Keller of Lakewood; one son, Ernest A Ensign of Elyria; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs Mabel Sooy of Sullivan, Mrs Sadie Reising of Wellington, Mrs Leona Seeley of Elyria and Mrs. Thelma Reynolds of Elyria; and two brothers, Carl Ensign of Wellington and Myron Ensign of Elyria.
