Opera Singer. Regarded by many as one of the greatest opera singers that Norway has ever had. During her decade-long career she performed in the most important opera houses in Europe and of the United States. Considered a natural talent from an early age she made her debut in 1948 singing in public for the first time in a theatrical performance at the her University. In 1952, she moved to Stockholm and after passing an audition, started to work at the Stockholm Opera House, singing for several years with artists such as Johann Jonatan Björling. During the 1952 Summer Olympics she was invited to sing at the Stockholm Concert Hall, and after charmed the audience with an performance considered exceptional was acclaimed by international critics. Aase reached a pivotal moment of her career when she was invited to the Vienna State Opera by Herbert von Karajan to sing in Die Walküre (The Valkyrie) by Richard Wagner. Later she performed in major opera houses such as New York Metropolitan Opera and Covent Garden in London. In 1973, when was instituted the Norwegian Academy of Music, she was appointed "First Singing Professor" and from 1978 to 1981 was Director of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet. Aase died of natural causes at her home in Lillehammer.
