Charles Frederick Crocker was born in Sacramento, Calif., on Dec. 26, 1854, the eldest son of Charles Crocker (1822-1888), one of the founders of the Southern and Central Pacific Railroads. Charles F. Crocker was educated at the Military Academy in Oakland, Calif., and at the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1877, he began working for the Central Pacific Railroad as a clerk. The following year he was promoted to financial agent, and shortly after that to Third Vice President, a position which he held for the next decade. After his father's death in Aug. 1888, Charles F. Crocker was elected First Vice President of the Southern Pacific Railroad, and held that position until his death. In 1880, he had married a Miss Easton and they had three children. In addition to his railroad position, he was the vice president of a steamship, which operated to the Orient, was President of the Board of Trustees of the Calif. Academy of Sciences, a member of the Board of Regents of the Univ. of Calif., and on the staff of the Governor of Calif. He was made a Mason in 1888, created a Knight Templar in 1889, a 32 degree Mason, also in 1889, and a 33 degree in 1892. He died at his home in San Mateo of apoplexy on July 17, 1897.
