He was 89. Born in Detroit, March 21, 1915, Irv graduated from Cass Tech High School in 1932 and worked for the City of Detroit for more than 30 years. Supervisor of DSR (now DOT) Charter Service and Gray Line Sight-Seeing Tours, he retired in 1975 and moved to Novi with his wife Maude, who died in 1988. Irv's true avocation was music. He joined a traveling Big Band in 1930 and played in a variety of small, medium and large sized ensembles throughout his life. An accomplished, respected, and admired trumpet and cornet player and 50 year member of the Detroit Federation of Musicians, Irv continued through 2004 to take great pleasure in his musical pursuits, performing with the Schoolcraft College Wind Ensemble, the Novi Community Band, other small groups, and as half of a duo with his devoted and loving companion, Judy Shepherd. He will be dearly missed by other survivors, including his daughter Marjorie Bree; his sons David and John; his sister and brother-in-law Mildred and Abe Brownston; and many nieces, nephews, friends and fellow musicians. His cremains were interred at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens in Novi.
