Thomas was the son of John W and Phoebe Jones Creach. He had brothers William Strickland, John Daniel, James Franklin, and sister, Martha Jane. Tom was killed by Indians while working as the foreman of the Double Circle Ranch, which was located at Eagle Creek, Graham County (now Greenlee County), Arizona Territory. He was buried in the area, but his brother, Daniel, later re-buried his remains in Iowa.
