Lived at 704 N. State Street Gerald and Hazel had formerly lived at the LaSalle Mansion hotel. Gerald's cousin Harry Haley, who came to Chicago around the same time, also lived on LaSalle Street. Gerald was a bit of an enigma during his wandering days in the 1920s. His brother Ned a few times tried to locate him, but couldn't track him down. However, it seems Gerald managed to keep tabs on his family without much trouble. In 1952, when he learned that his brother was ill, a handsome, white-haired, and well-to-do Gerald McGuiggin came to Boston to visit. Surprised and sad to find his brother Ned dying, Gerald returned to Chicago. Soon afterward, the family as shocked to receive word that Gerald had suffered a sudden heart attack, and died before his ailing brother.
