Son of Sir Ralph de Neville and Margaret Stafford. Grandson of Sir John de Neville and Maud de Percy, Sir Hugh Stafford and Philippe de Beauchamp, daughter of Thomas de Beauchamp, Earl of Warwick. Born BEFORE 1387.

Husband of Elizabeth Holand, daughter of Sir Thomas de Holand, Earl of Kent and Alice Arundel, daughter of Sir Richard, Earl of Arundel. They were married at Brancepeth, Durham after 29 Aug 1394, by licence dated 29 Aug 1394 and had three sons:

Grandfather of Sir Ralph de Neville, son of John de Neville and Anne Holand.

John accompanied the King to France in 1417 and was present at the sieges of Caen and Rouen. He was appointed to receive the surrender of those in the castle of Coursy on 02 Oct 1417.

He was styled as Lord Neville between 1397 and 1420.1 He held the office of Keeper of Roxburghe Castle between 12 November 1408 and 1 August 1411, and held the office of Warden of the West Marches towards Scotland between 15 May 1414 and 1420. He fought in the siege of Caen between August 1417 and September 1417, and on 2 October 1417 he took the surrender of those in the castle of Courcy. He held the office of Captain of the castle and town of Verneuil on 31 October 1417 and fought in the siege of Rouen between July 1418 and January 1418/19. He also held the office of Keeper of the Warren of St. John, Argences, in the bailiwick of Caen on 25 July 1419.
