By Frances (Bader) CAMPBELL, from "Hilda's Golden Heritage" 1974 Write-Up —

Frances Lillian BADER was born May 19, 1934 in Medicine Hat General Hospital and lived with her parents at the farm near Hilda until the family moved to Medicine Hat in 1943, when she was ten years old. She attended the Process School from 1940 – 1944. In Medicine Hat she attended school at Riverside, Alexandra High and The Canadian Union College, Lacombe, where she studied in the field of Elementary Education.

Frances remembers sitting on the knee of such pioneers as Christian Ruff, Jacob Sayler and William Mallach, trying to squirm off. Now wishing she had learned more of the early life in Hilda from those sod breaking settlers.

On August 16, 1954 she married James Murdoch CAMPBELL, of Salmon Arm, BC whom she met at Canadian Union College. The marriage took place in the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Medicine Hat.

The family went to India as missionaries in October 1962. After a few months studying the Hindustani language, James was appointed director of the Adventist Mission in the Punjab area of North India. Their home was at Jullundur, Punjab where Frances taught English in a mission school. She was always amused by little boys with red and blue ribbons in their hair, which showed they belonged to the Sikh religious community. One day in class, Frances wore a beaded net to keep her hair in place. While standing under an overhead fan, she noticed something was puzzling the children. Finally one of them asked "Madam, do you have colored lice in your hair?"

The Campbell's have three children: Merle Laura, born 1956, in Medicine Hat. Colleen Ruth, born 1958, in Saskatoon. Richard James, born 1968, Mussorie, India. Merle and Colleen are students of Far Eastern Academy, Singapore.

The Campbell's moved to New Delhi, India in 1966 where James is secretary of the church work in the Northern half of India and Nepal. Frances serves in the office and hosts a large number of mission guests.
