William was a son of Samuel S. Warren and his wife, Eliza Kirkpatrick. William married Lavina Rhodes; one of nine children born to Jacob Rhoades and his wife, Mary Schneider. William and Lavina celebrated their nuptials on Movember 22, 1855. They had six known children. William served as a Tax Collector for Belmont Township in Iroquois County, Illinois. He was the Commissioner of Highways in the same township. William was also elected Town Clerk for Woodland (Iroquois County), Illinois. He was also Woodlands Postmaster.
