United States Army Quartermaster General. He graduated from the Military Academy at West Point and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in 1915. In WW I, he was in action performing reconnaissance and was Director of the 2nd Corps Engineer School, France. After the war he served as instructor at the Engineer School, Virginia, Assistant Military Attaché, American Embassy, Tokyo, Japan, the office of Chief of Engineers, Washington and on the staff of the Governor of the Panama Canal Department. At the outbreak of WW II, he went to the England as Commanding General of the Services of Supply, Mediterranean Sector and by the end of war, he was commander of supplies for the entire European Theater of Operations. In January 1946, he was promoted Major General, 32nd Quartermaster General by President Truman. In office, he launched the program for return and final burial of American service personnel and civilians who died overseas during WW II. In March 1949, he was assigned the Army's Director of Logistics, promoted Lieutenant General and served until he retired on December 31, 1952. His awards include; the Distinguished Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Legion of Merit, Silver Star, Bronze Star, French Croix de Guerre with Palm, the Brazilian Order of Military Merit, the Order of the Crown of Italy (Grand Order), the British Order of the Bath Companion, and the Polish Gold Cross with Sword.
