His obituary reads....

From the McKinney [Texas] Democrat, June 4, 1908:

Particulars of Accident Befalling William "Billie" Tarpley, at Thompson.

In reporting the death of Billie Tarpley I failed to tell how the accident occurred, and as his friends have asked me to send in a notice, I will ask you to publish this. He was out with a gun and in going through a wire fence his foot slipped and he fell and the gun went off and shot him through his stomach. Dr. Boorman of Princeton was called at once and did all they could but without avail. He was shot the 15th and died the 17th. He was 26 years old. Billie was a good boy, everybody loved him. He leaves a father, mother, two sisters, and many friends to mourn his loss. We realize that Billie is better off. We can't call him back, but we can go to him. His remains were interred in the Backbone cemetery, Rev. Enlow conducting the funeral services.
