Samuel J. May, Boston, 32, died of consumption December 28th, 1859. Dr. May came to Sacramento in 1849, and at once established a drug store. In 1852 he got on the editorial staff of the 'Californian', a settler organ, and after that was more or less connected with, the press of this city. In August, 1853, he became one of the proprietors of the Democratic State Journal, and sold out his interest in 1854 to Colonel Snowden. After that he was connected with the Tribune, California American and the Daily Bee, he being city editor of the last named paper up to the time of his last sickness.
