“Lieutenant Colonel John O. Keider of the Inspector General’s Section, Headquarters First U. S. Army, a combat veteran of two wars was presented the Army Commendation Medal by Lt. Gen. Edward J. O’Neill, commanding the First U.S. Army, upon his retirement after thirty years of service recently. Born in Brockway, Penna. Colonel Keider attended high school and St. Bonaventure College in Olean, N. Y., where his mother and step-father, Mr. And Mrs. Charles Cochener reside at 422 N. Eighth Street. The Colonel served with the 26th Infantry Division during World War ll through the Rhineland and the Ardennes-Alsace Campaigns. During the Korean Conflict he was a member of a Korean Military Assistance Group (KMAG) attached to the 50th ROK Army Division with which he served during the Second Korean Winter and Summer-Fall Campaigns. His decorations in addition to the Army Commendation Medal, include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal with the “V” device for-valor, the Presidential Unit Citation and Combat Infantryman’s Badge with second award. The citation accompanying the award of the Army Commendation Medal read in part, “through his professional competence, he contributed materially to the improvement of the individual units he inspected and to the overall efficiency in the of elements of the Army in the First United States Army Area. His natural ability to recognize and analyze problems, together with his skillful and efficient manner, permitted him to provide unit commanders with valuable advice and assistance as to the measures to be taken to improve the operating efficiency of their units.” Colonel Keider resides at 214 Spout Spring Avenue, Mt. Holly, N.J., with his wife, the former Eleanor Caroline Lecomte of Olean. They have two sons, Michael, 17, a student at Rutgers University and Timothy, 21, who is attending the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York.”
