George W. Barr, a private in the Confederate Army, was born in Calhoun County, Mississippi on March 18, 1846, to Allen Barr and Jane Campbell Barr. George Barr enlisted in the Confederate Army in April of 1863. He was part of the 19th Mississippi Cavalry, Rucker's Brigade, Forrest's Division. No military records concerning Barr have been located, but he could have served at the Battle of the Wilderness, the Battle of Spotsylvania Courthouse, and the Battle of Cold Harbor. It is fairly certain he participated in the Battle of Brice's Crossroads in June of 1864 and was wounded there in both legs. He surrendered with his Company May 10, 1865 at Gainesville, Alabama.
