Cpl. William D. Richardson of Moreno Valley, California. In high school, he was on the wrestling team and a ferocious linebacker on the football team. He was like an animal that filled the other team with terror. The Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks lit a fire in his soul. He couldn't stop talking about it. He wanted to make things right. Richardson of Moreno Valley, Calif., drowned after he fired all his ammunition to cover for his buddies who scrambled to safety, then jumped into a concrete-lined canal to escape insurgent fire. He enlisted in the Army in February 2002 and has served twice in Iraq. He is survived by his wife, Teara, Parents, Bill and Karen Richardson, Brothers, Greg and Deanna Richardson, Kyle Richardson, Sister, April Richardson, Grandparents, Jerry and Billie Richardson. He died in Baghdad, Iraq, when he came under enemy fire and fell into a canal at age 23.
