On July 27, 1869, Sarah married Charles Mortimer Gayle, M.D. He was born in Virginia on October 24, 1825, to Bartlett Gayle and Dorothea Buckner Gayle.
Sarah died on September 4, 1936, in Austin, Texas. She was 91 years old and is buried in the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
