During his stay in North Carolina Peter Stuart taught school, his most notable student was Gen. James B. Gordon, one of JEB Stuart's favorite officers. Though many doubt this claim the handwriting of Peter Stuart Ney was shown to be the same as Marshal Ney by experts.
