Educator, Folk Figure. He was a school teacher in many communities in North Carolina. On his deathbed he claimed to be Marshal Ney of Napoleon's Grand Armee. This was surprising because Marshal Ney was supposedly executed in Paris for treason. However, supporters of the Peter Stuart Ney conspiracy say that the Masonic lodge sent him to America under an assumed name while a common prisoner was executed. Peter Stuart was seen by many friends of Marshal Ney in America and recognized. For this reason he moved to the quiet area of North Carolina. During his stay in North Carolina Peter Stuart taught school, his most notable student was Gen. James B. Gordon, one of JEB Stuart's favorite officers. Though many doubt this claim the handwriting of Peter Stuart Ney was shown to be the same as Marshal Ney by experts.
