Stella May Spencer, 91, of Wellington Park, Owensboro, died Saturday, Feb 7, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Hancock County, was a member of Parrish Avenue Baptist church and was a founding member of the Owensboro chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. She had worked as a school teacher, a practical nurse, a florist, a clerk at the former Interstate Store and Salms and was best known as an antique dealer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Spencer in 1981; and a daughter, Nelda Gillim, in 1980.
Survivors include two sons, G.C. Spencer of Gray, Tenn, and Billy Spencer of Woensboro; three daughters, Charlotte Herreld, Yvonne Emmick and Jolene Reynolds, all of Owensboro; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
A committal service is at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Chapel at Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is private. Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro is in charge of arrangements. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Spina Bifida Association. Memorial contributions envelopes are available at the funeral home.
