M.R. Beckett's Funeral Held Today


Moses Richard Beckett, Elkland Township farmer, passed away on Tuesday, January 17 [1939], following a heart attack. He had been ill one day.


Funeral services will be held today (Friday) at 2:00 p.m. at the family residence, 1 ½ miles southeast of Gagetown, and at 2:30 p.m. at the M.P. Church in Gagetown with Rev. Wesley Dafoe officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery [Elmwood Cemetery].


Born in Kemptville, Ontario, on April 28, 1860, Moses R. Beckett came to Tuscola County in 1910. He married Miss Fannie Coughlin at Kemptville, Ontario, in 1883. Mr. Beckett was a member of the Episcopal Church.


He leaves a daughter, Mrs. William Anker, of Detroit; two sons, Clare and Charles, at home; and four grandchildren. Mrs. Beckett passed away on January 22, 1920, and a son, Keble, died in 1918.
